Avoca Beach Theatre Newsletter 6th April 2022

I love the wilds of Scotland, so was immediately attracted to NOBODY HAS TO KNOW. Beautiful windswept moors are balanced by Bouli Lanners & Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Philomena) as love grows between them. This navigates a tale of guilty secrets, regrets and longing to deliver a quietly touching, unabashed tale. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes! Starts this week!

A few new films this week. Firstly, the stunningly beautiful RIVER captures the great power & beauty of rivers – and how vulnerable they are. RIVER delivers stunning landscapes enhanced by a stirring score from the Aus Chamber Orchestra, indigenous singer William Barton, Jonny Greenwood & Radiohead. It charts humanity’s evolving relationships with RIVERS ‘from mystery to mastery to almost an amnesia’, reflects narrator Willem Dafoe. A great film from the makers of MOUNTAIN, here this week only!

We are so excited that this week the ground-work began for the revitalisation of the Theatre with bores drilled for our GeoThermal system for our new building work. This system supports our philosophy of sustainability using renewable resources from what is here on our land, preserving our precious world resources. It was wonderful to be able to share this moment with so many patrons! Thank you for your encouragement, & your constant support! So lovely that we can do this journey with you, step by step.  You are such encouragers and wonderful, supportive friends.

So looking forward to sharing CYRANO with you! This is Peter Dinklage at his best as Cyrano de Bergerac, dazzling us with his ferocious verbal jousting & theatrical swordplay. Convinced his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), he does not declare his love, instead helping another to woo her. Opens this week – audiences are loving it!.

Our new film this week is BELFAST, possibly the ‘Feel good film of the year!’ starring Judi Dench, Catriona Balfe, Ciaran Hinds & Jamie Dornan. BELFAST is straight from Kenneth Branagh’s 9 year-old self, when his loving community & everything he thought he understood about life is turned upside down but joy, laughter, music & the formative magic of the movies remain firmly intact. ‘Sincere, affectionate, involving – I welled up exactly as I was supposed to. At least three times. BELFAST starts this Thursday.
