Featuring beloved classics including Summertime, Dream Dancing, Autumn Leaves, Basin St Blues and other jazz favourites, this is music rich in melody, warmth and improvisation.

✨ Mat Jodrell is widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading jazz musicians. During eight years based in New York City, he performed with jazz legends including Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Benny Golson, the Maria Schneider Orchestra and the Mingus Big Band at iconic venues such as Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls and Village Vanguard. He also taught at the prestigious Juilliard School. Since returning to Australia, Mat has continued to perform extensively with artists including James Morrison while lecturing in Jazz at the University of Melbourne.

🎹 Simon Tedeschi is one of Australia’s most celebrated pianists, known for his remarkable versatility across classical and jazz repertoire. An ARIA-nominated performer and acclaimed writer, Simon brings a unique classical sensibility to jazz improvisation. Sydney Arts Guide praised him as “a thinking improviser… able to hold his own in any first-class jazz group in this country.”

Having played to packed houses in Sydney and Melbourne, Tedeschi and Jodrell now bring this captivating duo performance to Avoca Beach Theatre. Blending jazz standards, blues influences and American music of the twentieth century, Jazz With a Twist is an intimate concert filled with virtuosity, spontaneity and musical conversation.

Lost in the Simulation: The Grandeur of Ash Morse’s ‘Nowhere Land’

In an era of disposable singles and Tiktok anthems, Ash Morse has delivered something increasingly rare: a sprawling, 45-minute orchestral odyssey that demands, and truly earns, your undivided attention. An award-winning performer and composer, his latest album is a perfect encapsulation of his talents, creating a full and wonderful world that few artists will be able to parallel.

Titled ‘Nowhere Land’, this ambitious concept album is a staggering achievement in scope, blending the theatrical weight of a West End production with the raw, soul-baring intimacy of a personal diary. In spirit, it sits comfortably alongside other bold, long-form, genre-shattering works such as Rosalía’s masterpiece, ‘Lux’ that actively resist the attention-shortening white noise of the internet through non-conformist composition, lavish human production value, and deep, existential storytelling.

Where ‘Lux’ is steeped in overt religious symbolism and devotion, ‘Nowhere Land’ diverges into more unsettling territory, exploring infinity and eternity in the absence of an interventionist creator, navigating a reality where meaning must be forged internally rather than bestowed from above. 

The record follows the harrowing journey of a mind trapped inside ‘The Dream Machine’, a reality simulator that becomes a powerful metaphor for the unseen forces that bind, confound and direct our lives and the many deep struggles we face in our journey back to liberation.

Award-winning singer-songwriter Mark Wilkinson returns to the live stage this July with a series of intimate shows, performing in duo mode with Glenn Hopper on piano.

 

Stripped back and reworked, the duo format brings fresh, dynamic arrangements to Wilkinson’s much loved catalogue. Expect soul-stirring vocals, rich storytelling and spine-tingling moments of raw emotion as he showcases songs from his forthcoming album ‘Love and Loss’.

 

‘I can’t wait to bring these new songs to the live stage and give my audience a preview of what’s to come. It’ll also be my first time playing as a duo in several years and I’m very excited to add new colour to some of my older tracks and share some brand new arrangements.’
